Amendment VIII
"Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted."
The 8th amendment prohibits courts and the government from charges extremely high bail or fines on people and the cost has to reflect the crime that has been committed, it also protect the people from having to endure cruel or unusual punishments, preventing the government from injuring people in extremely violent ways like physical or psychological torture.
